North River Farms
1,435± acres, Carteret County, NC
Description
This eastern Carolina hunting property is located a short distance to Morehead City, Beaufort and Harkers Island. Formerly a farm, this property is currently being restored back to a forested wetland through the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) in conjunction with a conservation easement with the North Carolina Coastal Federation.
The restoration will include planting wetland hardwoods on the lower areas and pines on the higher sites. Some of the hardwood plantings were completed in the winter of 2007. The water table will be manipulated and waterfowl impoundments will be created. These plantings and impoundments will create excellent habitat for ducks, deer, bear and quail.
There are 9 areas totaling 32 acres reserved from the conservation easement. These areas can be developed with houses, cabins and other structures.
There is a large metal shop located on the property. This building is currently leased by a farmer until 2011. The carbon credits are reserved by the seller. Access is from the shared, private dirt road from US Highway 70. Shown by appointment only.
